Villa Medici | Devialet

In unison
for excellence.

Spurred by a common drive for artistic experimentation, Devialet and the Académie de France in Rome are collaborating on a significant revamp of the Villa Medici, piloted by its new Director, Sam Stourdzé. The artistic direction of this transformation has been entrusted to the Creative Directors of Fendi, Kim Jones, and Silvia Venturini Fendi, as well as to architect and designer India Mahdavi.
And Devialet lends its expertise in high-end acoustics to this legendary venue for artistic creation as part of the ambitious "Reenchanting the Villa Medici" program. Perfectly in tune, the first chords of this encounter will focus on enhancing and developing Villa Medici's sound heritage.
Through this exceptional partnership, the Académie de France in Rome is investing in cutting-edge technology. The very spirit of this eminent creative venue. For Devialet, this collaboration reflects a profound ambition to promote French excellence and culture internationally.

Sound as Art Majeur.

The first creative initiative of this exceptional partnership is to bring sound into the heart of the Villa Medici. Devialet will oversee the installation of sound systems in several areas, including the emblematic historic salons, as well as the Debussy and Galilée rooms. Such great sound territories to explore.

Art of transcendence
through sound.

Revealing sound in all its dimensions. Such is the ambition. And it also takes shape through an acoustic audit of the Villa Medici's Grand Salon, the vibrant heart of the site, where the public is received. Devialet has offered its expertise in acoustics to this study, the objective of which is to enhance the sound quality of the cultural events programmed by the Académie de France (concerts, screenings, conferences, symposia, performances, meetings, etc.).
It was the culmination of a fruitful dialogue between Devialet specialists and Pierre-Antoine Gatier, chief architect of the Villa Medici. To reinterpret the aesthetics of this major venue, Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi initiate a bold dialogue between the historic furnishings of the Villa Medici and contemporary pieces, including exceptional tapestries on loan from the Mobilier National.

Rich with fresh acoustic initiatives, this partnership will also see the creation of a music studio at the Villa Medici intended for use by its boarders and residents. A fully equipped terrain for the creation and expression of sound to support the projects of the Villa's artists of all kinds, be they composers, musicians, singers, or performers.

Sound heritage,
reinterpreted.

Devialet is helping shine a light on this mecca for contemporary creation by reviving its sound and musical heritage. "The Sound of Villa Medici" captures the aura of the place, with a score of five playlists. A musical saunter embodying the sound identity of Villa Medici to enjoy while wandering through its various spaces or online. A hybridization of pieces by resident artists and other creations.
Venturing to the frontiers of innovation and creation, Devialet continues to build bridges between Art and Sound. In this spirit, Devialet, in collaboration with Villa Medici, has composed the sound identity of three emblematic rooms at the Académie de France in Rome, as well as two ambient playlists.

"At Villa Medici, we are committed to celebrating French excellence. Devialet is the quintessence of technology and expertise. Our partnership represents a unique opportunity for artists, acousticians, and engineers to collaborate on a common sound project and reaffirm Villa Medici's role as a hub for experimentation, innovation, and creation."
